When green turns greedy

In Maharashtra's Jalgaon district, solar plants were illegally built within the Gautala Autramghat Wildlife Sanctuary and its eco-sensitive zone, flouting multiple laws and regulations. Affected families—mostly from nomadic tribes, Scheduled Castes, and minority communities—were paid far less than what was promised; some signed deals but unaware of contents of it, in one case land deal was executed using FAKE IDs of deceased relatives. 130 affected families say they were deceived into signing the land deals.

Assam's Mikir Bamuni conflict has gained renewed attention after Azure Power was implicated, along with Adani Green Energy Ltd, in an inquiry raised by SEC. Farmers allege 'land grab' as they continue to struggle for 'land rights'.

Did Azure Power grab tribal farming land in Assam for its solar plant?
